Living Renzo Piano's architecture
The Waterfront di Levante is the project with which Renzo Piano gave Genoa back its seafront: light-coloured buildings overlooking navigable canals, public spaces open towards the water, materials and systems designed to use little energy. Staying here means living in the most important contemporary architecture the city has seen in decades, not just looking at it.
The apartment is in Piazzale Kennedy, close to the Palasport, the Blue Pavilion and the Genoa Fair. Corso Italia and the promenade to Boccadasse are a few minutes' walk away. The Old Port and the Aquarium can be reached in a few minutes by car or bus.
The apartment
55 square metres furnished with a carefully detailed sea theme: blue fabrics, paintings of sailing boats, seashells. The open-plan living area has a fully equipped kitchenette, a double sofa bed and large windows opening onto the semi-covered terrace, sheltered even on windy days.
The double bedroom is separate from the living area. The bathroom has a large shower.
The building is heated and cooled by an underfloor system using seawater (thalassothermal). It works differently from a standard air conditioner: it heats and cools gradually and evenly.
